What are the responsibilities and job description for the Consultant Anaesthetist position at NHS?
United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust have a vacancy for a full time Consultant in General Anaesthesia. On-call duties for this Consultant post will be based at Pilgrim Hospital; however, post-holders will be expected to operate flexibly across all hospital sites. The Department of Anaesthesia at ULHT is accredited by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. For applicants who have specific subspecialty interests, we would strongly encourage colleagues who wish to pursue other specialty interests to contact us to discuss in further detail. Any Consultant who is unable to work full time will be considered. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed and negotiated on an individual basis.
Main duties of the job
The Appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his / her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive on-call General Anaesthetic service at Pilgrim Hospital. Successful candidates will be expected to cover cross-sites as per the ULHT Policy, and this will be discussed in the job plan. The appointee will take part in the general anaesthesia consultant on-call rota for emergency duties at Pilgrim Hospital and provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence. He / she will be required to play an active part in the robust clinical governance programme in operation within the Department and to take part in regional and national audits and participate in service improvement. He / she will also be required to report all critical incidents and is expected to attend regularly Clinical Audit, Critical Incident Reporting, Morbidity & Mortality, and Anaesthetic Departmental Team meetings. He / she will be expected to undertake clinical supervision of Foundation, Core or Specialty trainees including workplace assessment, feedback, and communication with educational supervisors as appropriate. The appointee will have continuing responsibility for patients in his / her care and for the proper functioning of the department. Involvement in research where appropriate is encouraged. He / she will be encouraged to participate in management duties within the Department and the organisation.

Job responsibilities
The Trust is committed to the provision of a high quality, consultant-led service. The Appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his / her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive Anaesthetic service to ULHT. The postholder's on-call duties will be based at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, Lincolnshire, but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations or outreach district general hospital clinics. In addition, he / she will be required to :
- Undertake such other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service.
- Take part in 1 : 13 Consultant weekday night and weekend on-call and to provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
- Have continuing responsibility for patients in his / her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
- Take part in team and department audits.
The post holder will be expected to partake in teaching activities for junior doctors in training and medical students. The Job Plan and duties will be reviewed and updated on a regular basis in line with demands of the service.
