Overview
The staff certified athletic trainer will provide injury prevention, injury recognition, and injury rehabilitation to organizations that are under contract with NFMMC for these services. Also, provide treatment at the outpatient physical therapy department. This staff member is a BOC athletic trainer (AT) who reports to the Director of Sports Medicine/Summit Rehab Manager.
The staff athletic trainer (AT) will provide the following clinical duties; the evaluation of on-site injuries, initiating basic treatment, initiating appropriate and timely referrals to the medical system, communicating with all involved persons including the athlete, parent, coaches, physicians, rehab staff and allied healthcare professionals, and completing all documentation regarding injuries and treatment as required by the contractual obligations with NFMMC. This position requires 100% direct “hands on patient care”
Responsibilities
- Independently covers assigned athletic events, communicating with the Director of Sports Medicine/Summit Rehab Manager and supervising physician as appropriate.
- Develops treatment programs in accordance with evaluations and goals established by the injury assessment or by the treating physician.
- Determines athlete’s return to play status or patient’s physical readiness based on rehab.
- Provide injury prevention, injury recognition, injury rehabilitation, and treatment education to patients and families, and assisting the physician as directed.
- Assist physical therapists in provision of physical therapy treatment programs.
- Able to perform duties in an efficient and independent manner with minimal supervision.
- Independently upgrades own knowledge in athletic training. Submits request for continuing education as appropriate and according to department needs.
- Participates actively in inservices, including planning educational activities for the team as assigned.
- Takes the initiative to identify practice issues that could be improved upon for the benefit of the department and patient care, actively participating in at least one department project.
- Acts as a resource for clinical staff and supportive staff.
- Actively involved in the growth of the sports medicine program, marketing services to schools and organizations.
- Assists in development of policies and procedures specific to the sports medicine program.
- Participates in Sports Medicine and Rehab program planning and implementation.
- Demonstrates participation and leadership in departmental committees and activities, including but not limited to Quality Assurance/Improvement, student supervision, new staff orientation, problem solving in staff meetings, committee meetings, development of protocols/pathways as assigned.

Qualifications
- BOC Certification
- NYS Licensure
- BLS (CPR/AED)
- NYSED Fingerprinting
- Bachelor's required; Master's preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
