What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Assistant position at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center?
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is looking for a Part Time Dental Assistant to join our Tuscarora Clinic!
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position is accountable for assisting and providing direct patient care and clinical activities and under the direction and supervision of the clinic’s dentists(s).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the dentist at chair side, utilizing the principles of four-handed dentistry.
- Schedule patient appointments and assists in the scheduling of dentists.
- Seats and dismisses patients.
- Cleans operates and dental lab surfaces.
- Maintains dental equipment according to manufacturer’s schedule.
- Sterilizes dental instruments
- Exposes and develops dental x-rays.
- Orders and maintains the inventory of dental supplies.
- Performs patient education.
- Maintains and reports statistics of the utilization and procedures performed at the clinic.
- Assists and organizes the referral of patients to local specialists, when indicated. Assists in the completion of appropriate forms related to referrals.
- Maintains and completes all billing claims. Coordinates the resolution of the claims with NYSDOH/AIH representatives.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent, and/or graduate of an approved Dental Assistant program.
- One-year experience as a Dental Assistant in a general dental practice setting is preferred.
Requirements:
- Approval by the Tuscarora Tribal Council
- Familiarity with assisting in the dental clinic setting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Data entry experience and experience with the use of Excel and Word.
- Understands basic medical billing practices.
- Able to deal effectively with hostile situations.
