Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is currently hiring a Medicaid Service Coordinator.
MAIN FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for coordinating and arranging for medical benefits for uninsured inpatients to allow them to meet their financial obligations to the hospital. The Medicaid service Coordinator will interview patients and assist in the completion of Medicaid, Family Health Plus, Medicaid Managed Care Lines of business and Charity Care applications (as applicable). The Medicaid Service Coordinator acts as the patient's representative and presents the application to the DSS (Department of Social Services), ensuring all requirements requested by DSS are obtained. The Medicaid Service Coordinator will work collaborate on difficult cases with an outside agency.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position has the responsibility of interviewing patients to ensure collectability of patient accounts and enrollment of the uninsured population. Responsibilities also include interacting with other departments and outside agencies in an effort to identify resources available for financial aid. This position is required to work with all patients in the hospital who need assistance, including Behavioral Health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Interviews patients or responsible individuals to determine Medicaid/Government funded insurance program / financial (charity care) assistance eligibility.
2. Ensures all appropriate documentation for each patient is maintained. Keeps copies of approval /denial Letters / Medicaid applications/ insurance applications and financial assistance applications.
3. Represents the patient with DSS (Department of Social Services)
4. Maintains a close working relationship with DSS, ensuring follow through on a continual basis until all pertinent information is obtained.
5. Ensures follow through with patient on a continual basis until all pertinent information is obtained, this could include house calls.
6. Contacts patient in the department where services are being rendered. This includes in-patients at the bedside and Emergency Room, Heart Center and all ancillary areas as needed.
7. Contacts the County the patient resides in to set up an appointment to present the case for approval of Medicaid coverage. Presents case to the county on behalf of the patient.
9. Meets bi-weekly with the Director of Patient Financial Services to provide information for all high risk accounts.
