What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Public Safety Records Specialist position at Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA)?
WORK OBJECTIVE
Under the direction of NFTA Police Supervisors and/or Police Records Specialist, performs records maintenance and payroll clerical support relating to the operation of the Transit Authority Police Department. The Payroll Clerical Support role involves assisting with the preparation and processing of payroll, ensuring accurate and timely payment of employee wages. Responsibilities include maintaining payroll records, entering data, and resolving payroll discrepancies. Strong attention to detail and proficiency in payroll software are essential for success in this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Enter payroll data, maintain accurate records, ensure timely processing of employee wage payments.
· Generates computer reports showing statistics on criminal activities occurring throughout the Metro System.
· Collects, analyzes and correlates statistical data and formulates internal reports.
· Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly and annual statistical data reports to the Chief of Police.
· Processes NYS Uniform Traffic Tickets.
· Generates reports relating to time, location of incident and officer activity.
· Processes court notices, records dispositions and processes sealed files.
· Maintains and computerizes internal office files.
· Word process material from various locations.
· Prepares statements and supporting dispositions, as needed, for investigations.
· Receives and distributes mail, greets visitors and answers telephones.
· Perform other tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
High school diploma with equivalent work experience to equal an Associate’s degree; knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling skills; ability to operate Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word software and must be able to adapt to police related computer applications including, but not limited to Central Police Services and Computer Aided Dispatching. Strong attention to detail and proficiency in payroll data entry.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or equivalent with two (2) years relevant experience and must be skilled in various PC applications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and /or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.
