Nicholas Community Action Partnership, Inc. has an immediate opening for a part-time
Bus Monitor Long-Term Substitute for the Panther Creek Head Start.
Position Summary: The Bus Monitor works in collaboration with the Bus Driver to supervise children on the bus route. Acts as a liaison for the Head Start Program by interacting with parents and children during a bus route.
Essential/Primary Responsibilities:
1. Accompany children on and off of the bus at bus stop and at program facilities.
2. Assists children into and out of safety seat restraints and seat belts as necessary, ensuring restraints and belts are properly adjusted /fastened and children are secure.
3. Maintain an accurate seating chart.
4. Ensures that unauthorized passengers do not board the bus.
5. Ensures that children are released only to authorized individuals utilizing Child Passenger Checklist
6. Conducts a thorough post trip inspection for children or items left on the bus at end of route.
7. Secures the vehicle in an emergency situation.
8. Collaborates with the Bus Driver in teaching children the correct safety procedures for boarding and exiting a bus as well as the danger zones around the vehicle; conducts safety drills for the children and parents.
9. Interacts with children throughout their time on the bus, extending and reinforcing School Readiness Goals with activities such as leading children in singing, telling stories, playing visual games, etc.
10. Inspect playgrounds DAILY – prior to use by the children; sweep “pour in place” and/or rake wood carpet at the end of week.
11. Perform other duties as needed or required.
Qualifications:
1. Pass a physical examination and biannually thereafter and be able to physically assist/lifting children up to 50 lbs., some of whom may need to be carried from a vehicle in case of an emergency. 45 CFR 1310.16(a)(2)
2. Pass a Criminal Information Background Check. (45 CFR 1301.31(b)(1)(iii)
3. Pass a Child and Adult Abuse Clearance (45 CFR 1301.31(b)(2)
4. Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
5. Perform a pre-employment tuberculosis risk assessment by a licensed health care provider.
6. High School Diploma or equivalent
