JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: General Maintenance Painter
Department: Facilities Management
Reports To: Associate Director, Physical Plant, Department of Facilities Management
Job Summary
Perform journeymen level painting work including but not limited to: drywall taping, plastering and finishing, in connection with the maintenance, repair and construction of College buildings, facilities and equipment. Performs skilled and unskilled building and grounds maintenance services.
Typical Duties
- Responsible for performing skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of finishes of exterior surfaces, interior walls, ceilings and floor surfaces in College buildings, facilities and equipment.
- Applies various types of paint, i.e. primers, sealers, oil, water, rubber, vinyl or cement-based paints; prepares surfaces as necessary.
- Prepares parking areas and streets for striping, operating applicable machinery.
- Performs work according to manufacturer's specifications, departmental guidelines, trade practices, blueprints, shop drawings and schematics.
- Inspects buildings, facilities and equipment to ascertain required repairs and make recommendations to supervisor.
- Leads/directs student helpers.
- Performs assignments, which may include scheduled overtime.
- Responsible to respond to overtime work on recall, which may include unscheduled and emergency recall situations, during off-hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Performs general maintenance tasks as needed in College buildings and facilities.
- Repair and/or replacement of all campus building needs to include doors, door hardware, windows, ceiling tile, drywall, painting, etc.
- Performs related routine maintenance work such as repair of window and door screens, repair and installation of bulletin boards, whiteboards, hanging pictures, signage, etc.
- Repair and/or replace electrical devices to include light switch and outlet face plates, re-lamping, etc.
- Perform plumbing work such as clearing clogged lines, assist in the installation and/or repair of new plumbing fixtures, repairs water leaks, etc.
- Utilize the work order system to prioritize and account for repairs in progress and update the system with labor and comments when work is completed.
- Set up and operate trade-specific tools to make necessary repairs
- Keeps workshop area clean on a regular basis. Ensures all tools and equipment are in the proper place and good working order.
- Assist in other maintenance activities.
- Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Thorough journeymen-level knowledge of painting and finishing, including the ability to skillfully apply the same.
- Ability to estimate necessary supplies and materials for jobs/projects.
- Must be able to follow standard procedures and read and understand blueprints.
- Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and staging heights up to 100 feet.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operators license is required.
- Ability to effectively work individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing, or electronically.
- Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
- Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.
- Problem-solving skills and sound judgment.t
- Ability to understand and apply College and Departmental policies and procedures.
Experience Required
- Three years of full-time work experience as a journeyman-level painter.
- High school education or equivalency is required.
- This position requires a criminal background check (CORI/SORI).
