Job Summary
The role of the Maintenance Technician is to maintain College facilities in a safe, clean, comfortable atmosphere for faculty, staff, students and guests. Technicians perform a wide variety of preventive, routine and emergency maintenance repairs to keep all buildings and equipment in good operating condition. Functions may include non-technical electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmith and painting.
Typical Duties
- Responsible for performing general maintenance tasks as needed in College buildings and facilities.
- Repair and/or replacement of all campus building needs to include doors, door hardware, windows, ceiling tile, drywall, painting, etc.
- Performs related routine maintenance work such as repair of window and door screens, repair and installation of bulletin boards, whiteboards, hanging pictures, signage, etc.
- Repair and/or replace electrical devices to include light switch and outlet face plates, re-lamping, etc.
- Perform plumbing work such as clearing clogged lines, assist in the installation and/or repair of new plumbing fixtures, repairs water leaks, etc.
- Utilize the work order system to prioritize and account for repairs in progress and update system with labor and comments when work is completed.
- Set up and operate trade specific tools to make necessary repairs
- Keeps workshop area clean on a regular basis. Ensures all tools and equipment are in proper place and in good working order.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Performs assignments, which may include scheduled overtime.
- Responsible to respond to overtime work on recall, which may include unscheduled and emergency recall situations, including snow removal, during off- hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required
- Knowledge of general carpentry and maintenance, including the ability to skillfully apply the same.
- Knowledge of building trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building maintenance, and carpentry.
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
- Communication skills, problem-solving skills and sound judgment are essential.
- Sufficient stamina and physical ability to perform essential functions over long periods of time.
- Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and staging heights up to 100 feet.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
- Ability to estimate necessary supplies and materials for jobs/projects.
- Ability to effectively work individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing or electronically
- Ability to understand and apply College and Departmental policies and procedures.
Experience Required
Candidate must have three years’ experience in general maintenance trades, preferably in a collegiate setting.
High school education or equivalency required.
This position requires a criminal background check (CORI/SORI).
