N.E.C is accepting applications for a Soil Scientist.
A soil scientist is a person with specialized knowledge of soil morphology (i.e., the arrangement and characteristics of layers, or horizons, in a soil profile), soil, chemistry, soil biology, and/or soil physics. Soil Scientists use this knowledge to better assist their clients’ needs in developing their property.
Note: this work is done in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking, or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
Qualifications:
BA/BS or higher in Soil Science, Environmental Science, or related field.
Experience with conducting fieldwork and soil sampling.
Experience in analyzing soil data and providing recommendations for land-use management and environmental management practices.
Experience in conducting research, writing reports, and presenting data to clients and stakeholders.
Strong proficiency in GIS, CAD, and related softwares.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work in a variety of fields and laboratory settings and adverse weather conditions.
Frequent travel is not required- most projects are within 1-2 hours of the office.
Ability to operate a UTV, tractor and experience towing trailers.
High level of knowledge about soils, onsite wastewater systems/septic systems, reversing denied sites, adjusting existing systems to accommodate bedroom additions or pools and working with developers in the subdivision design process is a plus.
Duties:
Perform and record soil evaluations in the field for suitability
Prepare and review reports, proposals, and regulatory submissions
Monitor project progress, identify potential issues or obstacles, and implement corrective actions as needed
Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permits, and standards
Provide technical expertise and guidance to project team members and clients
Foster positive relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
Collect, analyze, and interpret data using advanced scientific techniques
Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field of study
Write reports, papers, and summaries to communicate research findings
