Position Summary:
Fabricate complex tools, dies and fixtures including assemblies, gages and engineering sample components
Scope/Supervision and Interaction:
Essential Functions:
· Select raw material per drawing specification and prep for machining
· Plan process sequence and rough machining stock allowance for heat treatment and finish machining
· Set up and operate cutoff saw, lathes, drill press, knee mills, vertical machining center, jig bores, surface grinders, OD grinders, ID grinders, Form grinders, CNC/Manual jig grinders, Vertical EDM, Wire EDM, lap machines, and other applicable equipment
· Achieve specified dimensions, form and surface finish
· Adhere to determined safety and cleanliness standards
· Utilize skills in machine and hand tool work to achieve high quality running and locational tool fits for mating P/M Tool & Die components and production gages
· Complete all required process documentation to maintain quality standards
· Work independently or in a team to provide problem solving support to manufacturing and engineering
· When necessary, work to sketches and/or verbal instructions to provide timely support to manufacturing
· Adhere to established timelines
· Perform minor machine maintenance
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
· A.S. in Integrated Manufacturing Technology (Machine Tool) or completion of certified Tool & Die Apprenticeship program or high school diploma/GED and equivalent experience
· Experience required to obtain an advanced level of knowledge – generally 8 years
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
· Shop math and trigonometry
· Advanced comprehension of CNC programming and operation
· Knowledge of working properties of alloy steels, tool steels, cast iron, aluminum and plastics
· Working knowledge of heat treatment processes and possible materials substitution to provide emergency support to manufacturing
· Knowledgeable in the use of all Tool Room metrology equipment
Job related demands (i.e. physical, travel):
· Occasional travel for meetings or training (4-5 times per year)
· Flexibility to alter work schedule for timely completion of projects
· Prioritization of multiple projects to meet operational goals
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy
· Maintenance of professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional associations
· Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs following company safe lifting protocol
· Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
· Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils and chemicals
