Vice President - Major Projects

Summary:          

• The Vice President (VP) of the Major Projects Division is a pivotal leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of a business division generating annual revenues of approximately $150 million. This includes providing a clear vision for growth and profitability, ensuring alignment with Nicholson Construction's strategic objectives, and fostering operational excellence. The SVP leads cross-functional teams in estimating, business development, operations, and safety to deliver exceptional project outcomes, drive financial success, and establish a growth-oriented culture.

Essential Functions:       

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and communicate a compelling vision for the Major Projects Division that aligns with corporate goals. Translate this vision into actionable strategies that ensure profitable growth and operational excellence.
• Business Development & Growth: Spearhead business development initiatives to secure new opportunities, expand market presence, and build lasting client relationships. Develop partnerships with other geotechnical contractors, general contractors and owners to define a win strategy for large and medium size tenders.
• Operational Excellence: Oversee the successful execution of multiple large-scale geotechnical projects, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and financial performance standards. Engage in the details of projects when necessary to provide guidance and support.
• Financial Accountability: Assume full responsibility for the profit and loss of the division, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting and for the cash performance of the division. Provide support and strategic guidance to construction team for the analysis, development, submittal and negotiation of claims. 
• Team Leadership: Inspire and guide a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration and professional development. Act as a mentor and role model for leadership, teamwork, and technical expertise. The VP, Major Projects will serve as a member of the company Management Committee and will be actively involved in the development and implementation of the company overall goals and objectives.
• Collaboration: Partner with other corporate departments to align objectives and ensure the successful delivery of projects and initiatives. Communicate clearly and openly.
• Industry Advocacy: Represent the company externally to enhance its reputation, maintain industry leadership, and build relationships with key stakeholders.

Education & Training:    

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field required. MS preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferable.

Experience:       

• Minimum of 15 years construction, design, and finance and management with substantial experience in the management of geotechnical projects and large-scale operations either directly or in a supervisory role.
• Demonstrated success in leading multidisciplinary teams and driving business growth.

Knowledge and Abilities:              

• Deep understanding of geotechnical techniques, with expertise in project management, financial reporting, and business development.
• Proven track record in a Regional or Division manager role for at least three years. 
• Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on management.
• Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.

Physical Requirements:

• Reaching high and low, stooping, and bending continually.
• Lifting/carrying/moving up to 40 pounds.
• Able to travel per the company travel policy.
• Able to concentrate at a high degree in a busy and noisy construction environment.
• Able to work in all types of weather.
