Structural Mechanic

Summary :

The Fighter Structural Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and modification of airframe structures on jet fighter aircraft. This role requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and adherence to strict safety regulations. The mechanic will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure the airworthiness and readiness of aircraft.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Inspect aircraft structures for damage, corrosion, fatigue, and other defects using various inspection methods (visual, non-destructive testing, etc.).
• Perform maintenance tasks according to manufacturer's specifications and Air Force technical orders. This includes :
• Frame repairs and structural reinforcements.
• Fabricating and installing skin doublers.
• Repairing or replacing damaged stringers and bulkheads.
• Performing composite repairs on airframe components.
• Sheet metal repairs, including patchwork and rivet installation.
• Modifying or upgrading airframe structures per engineering directives.
• Conducting detailed inspections and assessments for structural damage.
• Replacing or refurbishing structural components during overhauls.
• Troubleshooting and repairing cracks, corrosion, or fatigue issues on airframes.
• Installing reinforcements to meet new load or stress requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of all inspections, maintenance, and repair activities.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose structural problems, utilizing technical manuals and other resources.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Participate in on-the-job training and continuing education programs.
• May supervise or mentor junior mechanics.
• May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• May be required to travel to other locations for specialized training or repairs.
