Job Summary
Provides direct and indirect care duties under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse (RN). Performs a variety of invasive and non invasive technical skills and specialized patient care procedures as well as other duties to support 24 hours of hospital operations.
Job Specific Duties
- Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) in charge. Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living to include bathing, personal hygiene, nutrition and comfort measures, changing bed linens, and diapers.
- Performs vital signs, heights, weights, head circumference & other measurements and records the results in the Electronic Health Record according to nursing and hospital policies & procedures.
- Renders care to patients in adherence with written protocols under the supervision of the RN and assists with patient procedures such as; venipuncture / phlebotomy, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens & phlebotomy according to health system standards, Point of Care Testing, ensuring EKG's as ordered, Bladder Scanning and other duties as assigned.
- Informs RN of pertinent information and / or communicates all significant changes in patient condition or behavior.
- Recognizes accepted priorities for care needs and takes direction for re-prioritizing from the RN.
- Restocks supplies such as gloves, gowns, linen, medical equipment, assists with room preparation and turnover.
- Identifies the needs of the patient and provides necessary supplies accordingly.
- Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes / practices cost containment.
- Maintains patient rooms and nursing station clean at all times.
- Provides encouragement, support and comfort to patients and family members.
- Assists with transporting patients for special procedures.
- Performs other assigned tasks to promote efficient practice operation and contributes to the provision of quality patient care.
- Greets and welcomes patients, families and visitors. Communicates information regarding NCHS services and delivers excellent and timely service and support.
