Job Description
A Medical Assistant provides support to physicians and clinicians in the examination and treatment of patients. They are responsible for various administrative functions, including patient care management.
Key Responsibilities
- Answers phone calls, routes them, and takes accurate messages.
- Administers medications and immunizations as directed by providers.
- Communicates changes in patient conditions or behavior to clinicians and physicians.
- Maintains medical records and charts, ensuring necessary documentation is present.
- Gathers data for general information, special reports, and contacting other employees, departments, and individuals.
- Prepares billing charges and reconciliation, assists with claims forms, and answers patient questions about payment status.
- Runs reports for credit cards, super bills, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- Operates and maintains equipment, ensures medical supplies are stocked, and performs vital signs and measurements.
- Assists with procedures, collects specimens, and distributes them to the laboratory.
- Schedules appointments, verifies authorizations, and processes medical documentation.
- Serves as a receptionist, conducts patient check-in, registration, and collects fees.
- Tracks samples and enters electronic orders for lab tests and medication prescriptions.
Qualifications
Requirements include:
- American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Proof of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program, certification, or equivalent experience.
The ideal candidate will have:
- High school education or equivalent.
- Fluent English and Spanish language skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer and math skills.
- 1-2 years of physician office experience and clinical care coordination preferred.
