Position Summary: At Nicolet College, our mission is to transform lives and enrich communities, and we see change as an opportunity to transform even more lives and to serve our diverse communities even better. As part of a Wisconsin area Technical College System Career Pathways Grant awarded to Nicolet College, and under the general supervision of the Dean of applied Technology and Trades, The Aviation Pathway Specialist serves as the student’s main point of contact throughout their academic journey. This is a limited term employment position that focuses on student success, course completion, career development by utilizing holistic, student-centered approach. The Aviation Pathway Specialist works to get to know each student as an individual by learning personal and professional roles, responsibilities, goals, and challenges, and collaboratively builds a plan with each student to achieve their academic goals. Work is performed at various locations across the Rhinelander campus and the Nicolet College district.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: (List is not all-inclusive; other duties may be assigned.)

  • Identify and work with non-traditional students, including minorities, females, those already employed in aviation professions.
  • Lead discussions and instruct in flight simulator lessons.
  • Assist with development and delivery of an FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone class, including classroom and drone flying activities.
  • Assist with curriculum development of credit-based aviation classes.
  • Work with area high schools to develop interest in aviation-related career pathways such as pilots, mechanics, airport management and other aviation support services.
  • Assist with reactivation of local EAA Chapter.
  • Promote Nicolet College’s aviation offerings in our district, in addition to other northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan communities.
  • Provide coaching and support services that promote diversity and equity.

Student Guidance

  • Evaluate student data prior to registration, perform transcript evaluations, recommend transfer equivalencies, and maintain knowledge of transfer articulations.
  • Complete all required administrative tasks associated with registration, referrals, and other activities as required or requested.
  • Collaborate with the Dean and Aviation Coordinator in coaching students.
  • Assist students in transferring to other educational institutions.

Continuous Quality Improvement

  • Identify, improve, and update processes to better serve the needs of students, collaborate with various departments and employees to evaluate, modify, and execute policies and procedures as needed.
  • Work closely with employees and campus services to execute the best possible plan for student success.
  • Act as an advocate for Nicolet College and the Wisconsin Technical College System.
  • Remain current on professional development by participating in staff meetings and other professional development opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student privacy laws and regulation, with ability to use discretion when handling sensitive information and situations.
  • Core practice skills such as active listening, use of open-ended questions, summarizing and reframing, with the ability to be creative and generate enthusiasm for students.
  • Excellent analytical, written, verbal, interpersonal communications, and technology skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, prioritize multiple requests, and work in a fast-paced environment while paying attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of various ages, learning styles, academic levels, and cultural backgrounds.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in an aviation-related field, or comparable aviation industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR’s) related to pilot training, flight operations, and maintenance requirements.
  • General knowledge of aircraft and flight safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FAA certified flight instructor or ground school instructor.
  • General knowledge of FAR part 61 and 141 flight instruction regulations.
  • FAA Private or Commercial Piolet License.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email correspondence, virtual meeting platforms, and various aviation training software.

  • The employee must demonstrate strong attention to detail and must be able to perform complex tasks without error.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to normal office conditions and usual office equipment such as telephone, computer, printers/copiers, reports, and files.
  • The employee will be constantly required to sit, talk, hear, and type/write.
  • The employee will be frequently required to stand, walk, touch/handle/grasp (using hands and fingers), and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally bend or squat and lift and/or push up to 10 pounds of general office items.
  • Ability to operate safely in airport environments
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, far, and field of vision.
  • This position requires regular and punctual employee presence.

Compensation:

The typical starting pay range for this position is $21.46-$24.53 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience.
