Job description
The Nielsen Eye Center is dedicated to providing our patients with the most advanced technology and the most experienced Lasik and cataract surgeons with locations in Quincy, Norwell, Norwood and Weymouth.
We are seeking Ophthalmic technicians to join our patient care team. Ideal candidates are certified ophthalmic assistant (COA) or certified ophthalmic technician (COT). However, we are willing to provide on-the-job training and experience to the right candidate as they work toward certification.
We offer exciting room for advancement for all our motivated technicians. Becoming certified with our LASIK team, minor surgery assistants, Crosslinking technicians, Dry Eye Treatments, Assist physician with Retina injections.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide primary ophthalmic care to patients and act as clinical assistant to physician.
- Perform complete ophthalmic history intake and perform preliminary exams
- Verify patient information, record, medical history, and confirm purpose of visit.
- Accurately record all information in EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.
- Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures complying with legal regulations (HIPPA).
- Perform tests: VF test, A-Scan Biometry, Pachymetry, Corneal Topography, OCT, Spec-microscopy, Optos, Tear function testing.
- Check condition of patients' eyes by observing pupils, muscle, visual acuity, extraocular movements.
- Prepare patients for ophthalmology examination by obtaining visual acuity, refracting (Jackson Cross), dilating pupils, elevated extraocular pressure.
- Review patient communications, process prescription refill requests, monitor technician line.
- Perform set standard number of patient work-ups based on established times while maintaining quality of customer service.
- Assist in keeping exam room stocked in accordance with standard inventory and Physician preferences.
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and promptly reporting equipment issues.
- Prepare for minor OR procedures to include setting sterile tray and maintaining sterile field.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must be able to work at all Nielsen Eye locations as needed.
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Schedule:
- Monday and Friday: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
- Tuesday: 10:00 am – 6:30 pm
- Wednesday and Thursday: 8:30am – 5:00 pm
- Saturday (Occasional): 8:00am – 12:00pm
