What are the responsibilities and job description for the Evening/Weekend Farm Caretaker position at Night Owl Farm?
In anticipation of our current person leaving for college in the fall, we are looking to hire someone to take care of our plants & animals in the off hours.
This position will start immediately with 1-2 shifts, and increase in amount as we progress through the summer. Exact schedule expectations can be sent via email - it’s a bit complex and changes through the seasons.
Job Expectations:
- Visit in the evenings & weekends to take care of our chickens, goats, vegetable starts, and other key farm needs
- Arrive about a 60-90 minutes before sunset in the evenings.
- Morning timing is very weather & sun dependent, but could be anywhere from 6AM-10AM depending on the day and the season.
- Responsibilities could also include bringing trash/recycling to the curb, hand watering field crops, light animal first aid, catching animals, moving trays of plants, and more.
- Clean the chicken and goat houses every other week (additional compensation)
- Each visit can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the time of year
- This is a YEAR ROUND position
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Evening and Weekend availability
- Reliable New England Transportation is a MUST.
- Knowledge of vegetable plants and farm animals is preferred, or a *clear* eagerness to learn
- Willingness to work in all weather (intense humidity to freezing rain to 12” of snow… all of it!)
- Able to lift 30lb repeatedly, 50lb occasionally
- Able to accept feedback and apply it in your work
- Willing to ask questions and clarify unclear instructions
- Adaptable and willing to change the work with the seasons of the farm
- A sense of responsibility and pride in your work - Trash on the ground? Pick it up. Door left open? Close it. Something out of place? Fix it. Not sure? Ask!

Pay: $10.00 - $20.00 per day
