Pediatric LPN Job Description - Night Watch Pediatric Urgent Care

Night Watch Pediatric Urgent Care is a fast-paced, patient-centered pediatric urgent care facility dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to children of all ages during evening and overnight hours. We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team. The Pediatric LPN will play a vital role in delivering excellent patient care and ensuring a smooth and efficient clinic operation during these crucial hours.

Job Summary:
The Pediatric LPN provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Physician within the pediatric urgent care setting, specifically during the evening and overnight shifts. This role requires a strong understanding of pediatric health, excellent clinical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, often managing a higher acuity of patients during these hours. The LPN will assist with patient intake, perform basic nursing procedures, administer medications as directed, and provide patient education.

Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
  • Obtain and document patient history, vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure), and chief complaint.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Administer medications (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous) as prescribed by the provider and within scope of practice.
  • Perform basic nursing procedures, such as wound care, dressing changes, and specimen collection (urine, stool, etc.).
  • Assist with procedures as needed.
  • Document all patient interactions, treatments, and medications accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and report findings to the physician
  • Provide age-appropriate patient education regarding illness, treatment plans, and home care instructions.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety, particularly during potentially stressful overnight visits.
Clinic Operations:
  • Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking of supplies.
  • Maintain and sterilize medical equipment.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.
  • Answer phone calls and triage patient inquiries, often being the first point of contact for concerned parents during the night.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure efficient patient flow, which can be more challenging during off-peak hours.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Professional Development:
  • Maintain current LPN licensure.
  • Attend continuing education programs to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Stay up-to-date on current pediatric healthcare practices and guidelines.

Qualifications:
  • Current and valid LPN license in VA.
  • Current CPR certification (BLS).
  • Minimum 1 years of experience working as an LPN in a pediatric setting (preferred, but new graduates with strong clinical skills will be considered).
  • Experience in urgent care or emergency room setting is a plus.
  • Strong clinical skills, including medication administration, wound care, and patient assessment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-volume environment, especially during potentially busy overnight periods.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend shifts is essential.
