A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and producing a high-quality effluent.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Operating and Maintaining Equipment:
Operators are responsible for operating and maintaining various equipment, including pumps, motors, aerators, filters, digesters, and chlorinators, ensuring they function correctly.Monitoring and Testing:They monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges to detect malfunctions and ensure efficient operation, collecting and testing water and sewage samples to assess water quality.Chemical Handling:Operators add chemicals, such as ammonia or chlorine, to disinfect and deodorize water and other liquids, following safety protocols.Record Keeping:They maintain accurate records of operational data, meter readings, and test results, documenting any issues or maintenance activities.Troubleshooting and Repairs:Operators troubleshoot equipment problems, perform minor repairs, and coordinate with maintenance personnel for more extensive repairs.Safety Compliance:Operators ensure that safety standards are met, including proper handling of chemicals and equipment, and following safety procedures.Compliance with Regulations:They ensure compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and other relevant standards.Training and Supervision:Operators may be involved in training new operators and supervising other plant workers.General Maintenance:Operators clean and maintain equipment, tanks, filter beds, and other work areas.
Requirements:
