What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Specialist position at Nihon Kohden?
The Benefits Specialist administers the NKNA benefits and perks programs, processes, and related activities, in partnership with HR, Finance and Payroll. Is a member of an active HR Employee Services team providing reliable HR data, systems and support, and assistance to employees.
Essential Functions and Main Duties
- Communicate regarding NK benefits and perks to employees, so they select and understand the plans, their usage and value, and are kept current on regulation changes that affect them, etc.
- Partner with benefits broker and customer advocate to create benefits survey, understand plans and options, develop on-going communications, and other needs.
- Assist with preparing data, reports and options for management and the Compensation & Benefits Committee.
- Be the key resource for employees with benefit questions and life events and assist them with resolving issues.
- Be the subject matter expert on compliance with benefits processes, reporting, audits, and government regulations (e.g., ERISA, 401k, HSA, etc.). Stay current on benefits regulations and trends.
- Work closely with broker and HR VP to manage the benefits open enrollment process and timeline, including effective communication to employees on benefit options and changes.
- Validate employee data, coordinate data submission with Payroll and vendors, approve benefit invoices, and prepare and audit regulatory information and forms.
- Create and present metrics regarding benefits usage, etc.
- Promote Wellness and Employee Assistance programs and other initiatives to foster long-term employee health.
- Facilitate informational presentations for employees on health, wellness and financial topics.
- Support and assist with employee perks and recognition programs, as assigned.
- Work cross-functionally and across different subsidiaries, with accuracy, tact and strong customer service interface.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
- Duties may be modified or assigned at any time based on business need.
Qualifications
Education / Certification / Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 3 years of professional experience administering benefits, running payroll, and coordinating effective relationships with benefit vendors.
- Professional certification in benefits or related HR area strongly recommended.
- Level and compensation depend on location, experience, education and skills.

- Experienced with handling confidential information with discretion; resolves issues quickly and efficiently.
- Proven track record of managing complex projects to successful completion, delivering on-time, on-target. Communicates clearly and professionally through effective listening, speaking and writing skills. Articulate; writes clear and concise instructions, policies, and on-going communications with employees. Prepares and presents information to internal groups.
- Experience with data integrity and data auditing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, and other relevant programs pertaining to HR and Payroll; including ability to work with data and create slides, graphs, charts, etc. Experience with using different payroll and benefits programs, including system implementations.
- Successful experience interfacing with employees throughout the organization with a high level of customer/client service and response.
- Attention to detail, timeliness, and accuracy required.
- Can investigate, propose, plan, implement ideas.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, and to receive and understand verbal and written instructions in English.
Compensation
The anticipated range for this position is $70,000 to $85,000. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, experience and location.

Working Conditions
Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, unless otherwise stated by the department manager. Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or department and are subject to change at any time at the Company's discretion.
Physical: Generally, may require some reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying up to 15 pounds, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, standing, walking, sitting, hearing, visual acuity, and color vision. More specific details may be provided as needed or requested.
Travel: Minimal
