Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)

NIKA is hiring for a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) who will be responsible for the performance and safety support tasks for a Base Operating Services (BOS) contract at Camp Pendleton, CA!

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Primary duty and responsibility is to prepare and enforce the Contractors safety program on this contract.
• Must provide a safety oversight team that includes a minimum of one Competent Person at each project site to function as the SSHO.
• This individual should always be on-site when work is being performed to implement and administrator the Contractors safety program and government-accepted Accident Prevention Plan.
• This individual must always be on-site during the Governments regular working hours.
• Schedules and directs, per plans and specs, the work of all company subcontractors.
• Maintains positive relationships with field crews, contractors, suppliers, and owners.
• Enforces and promotes safe work practices for all personnel onsite, per company safety policy.
• Maintain a clean and organized job site, including the construction office.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO).
• Minimum of 5 years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past OR 3 years of experience if this individual possesses a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree.
• Must have completed the OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent and maintain competency through 24 hours of formal safety and health related coursework every four years.
• The SSHO should have fulfilled the following pre-requisite training and experiences.
• Working experience with NFPA, EPA, TJC, OSHA codes and standards.
• Can demonstrate good communication and organizational skills that are required for government design/build projects and for daily interaction with government construction management staff.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Clearance Access Card (CAC)
• U.S. Citizenship required
