POSITION: Head Coach (All Sports)
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
RESPONSIBILITIES: Be responsible for the supervision and direction of the total program.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold or have held a teaching certificate and a minimum of five years varsity coaching experience preferred. Must be certified in CPR and hold a current Sports Medicine Certificate. In the absence of sufficient and qualified certificated personnel, the Board may employ qualified non-certificated personnel to fill the supplemental contract. Job descriptions and performance responsibilities will be consistent with expectations of certificated personnel in similar positions. In addition, any and all other qualifications deemed appropriate and acceptable by the Board of Education.
DUTIES:
- Be fully responsible for the organization and supervision of his/her coaching staff in teaching the fundamentals of interscholastic sports
- Be responsible for the behavior of the entire squad and coaching staff at all practice sessions and in all interscholastic games
- Assist in the planning of the following special events such as: assemblies, homecoming, pep rallies, Booster Club programs, banquets, etc., as it pertains to the coaches’ sport
- Has input on selection of assistant coaches
- Direct the work and assignment of assistant coaches
- Be responsible for the inventory, distribution and proper usage of equipment
- Protect the physical well-being of all participants by not permitting individuals to receive equipment or participate until the student has met these requirements:
- Submitted to a physical examination and turned in the completed card to the Athletic Director’s Office
- Has met eligibility as it related to age requirements and academics
- Be interested and loyal to the school’s program. The coach is expected to support the entire athletic department, encouraging athletes to participate in other sports and to be an active participant in striving to improve the athletic program, as well as the total educational program of the schools
- Assist in the arrangements for transportation to and from the sport
- Designates responsibilities for media coverage of events
- Is expected, after decisions and policies have been established to support and adhere to them, both in fact and in spirit
- Adhere to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Guidelines for off season programs
- Attend monthly Booster Club Meetings while sport is in session
- Is obliged to abide by the policy statements of this instrument
- Prepare an annual budget and purpose statement for the Board of Education’s approval
- Must follow Board-adopted accounting and purchasing procedures applicable to the position
- All varsity head coaches must attend a mandatory pre-season and post-season meeting with the Athletic Director to discuss budget, scheduling, equipment needs, fulfilling the required student-athlete paperwork, and for the opening and closing of each sports season. The two (2) meetings between the Athletic Director and Head Coaches during the particular sports season are mandatory, but do not include any additional meetings that can be called by the Athletic Director during the school year.
