Vision of Learning

Learning Context and Differentiated Instruction
- Develops and implements the curriculum to meet the needs of the student’s individualized education plan and aligned with state standards. Knowledge of ABA practices is desired.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of disabilities, and demonstrates an ability to effectively address the needs of children based on evidence-based practice.
- Displays ability to use classroom technology effectively and utilize software to collect and analyze student data.
- Designs instruction that is integrated, challenging, authentic and engages the learner.
- Provides instruction that supports learners in all areas of development including social, educational, physical, emotional, and communication.
- Integrates student goals and objectives into all areas of instruction.
- Organizes time, environment, materials and equipment to facilitate learning.
Assessment
- Conduct informal and formal assessments of student progress in learning and behavior.
- Involves students in the assessment process.
- Interprets assessment in an equitable and culturally fair manner.
Staff Roles
- Communicates effectively in writing including composing reports for IEP meetings or home/school correspondence.
- Completes required documentation/IEP case management responsibilities and record keeping in a specified time and manner for all students on the teacher’s caseload.
- Responsible for supervising classroom paraprofessionals, including providing direction, assistance, and professional guidance to support their development.
- Responsible for the supervision and safety of all students in the classroom.
- Demonstrates continual assessment of personal and program effectiveness.
- Maintains and documents on-going communication with families.
- Assists with in-servicing district personnel on the needs of students in the program/classroom.
- Participates in transition planning when appropriate
- Sets an example for students to follow.
- Teaches and supports students with daily living skills such as feeding by mouth, tube feeding, changing, toileting and personal hygiene.
- Lifts and transports students, as needed. No weight restrictions.
- Assists students during crisis situations utilizing appropriate Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques and other strategies as appropriate.
- Demonstrates knowledge of first aid and health-related emergency procedures.
- Participates in mentoring program and other professional growth activities.
- Demonstrates professionalism.
- Follows policies and procedures established by the NTDSE and The IL School Code.
Communication Skills
- Communicates in an effective, collaborative and positive manner with students, colleagues, and families.
- Acts as an integral member of the educational team.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters related to this position.
- Relates in a helpful, positive and efficient manner with peers, supervisors and all those in contact with NTDSE.
- Serves as a positive ambassador for NTDSE.
Terms of Employment:
School year calendar with the option to work Extended School Year (ESY).
Compensation and Benefits:
Per the Niles Township Federation of Special Education Educators and Support Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement.
