DAYS PER YEAR: 260 Days
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services
SUPERVISES: Licensed and Non-Licensed Special Education Staff within Niles Central
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Oversee development and implementation of curriculum and instruction at Niles Central. Supervise and evaluate the delivery of instruction in compliance with state, district and building policies and procedures as it relates to serving students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating and managing special education programs at District 219's Niles Central serving students with significant emotional and behavioral needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Illinois Public Educator License, General Administrative Endorsement, and Teacher Evaluator Designation required
Director of Special Education endorsement
Teaching or administrative experience in appropriate related field
Experience at the secondary level preferred
REQUIRED SKILLS
Ability to oversee the curriculum, instruction, supervision and legal mandates of a special education school
Ability to work collaboratively within the high school and township community
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all stakeholders
Ability to interpret, analyze and demonstrate use of data
Ability to utilize technology for meetings
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information
Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues and parents
Ability to perform essential duties with skill and knowledge
Ability to write reports, goals and objectives clearly and submit them in a timely fashion
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work collaboratively with others to serve the needs of all students
Supervise Special Education classroom instruction
Help general education and special education teachers understand students with special education needs, rights and services
Support and develop professional development for all staff in the area of special needs
Facilitate discussions for programs and services to Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services
Support new teachers with training on procedures, forms and programs of Niles Township High School District 219
Enforce District 219 Personnel Policies
Follow District 219 Evaluation Policies and Procedures for assigned staff
Facilitate IEP meetings for students
Communicate with District Administration and Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services as to the needs of the Special Education Program
Develop budgets as requested by the District 219 Business Office
Investigate and collaborate with the administration regarding concerns of employees
Recommend teachers for dismissal, tenure and job assignments to the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services
Participate in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training and assigning of Special Education Department personnel
Demonstrate knowledge of proper referral, eligibility and IEP development with staff and administration
Work collaboratively with the Department of Rehabilitation
Work collaboratively with the Elementary Directors in order to facilitate articulation with the junior high schools
Work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal of Student Services in order to complete re-evaluations and initial eligibility conferences
Attend District 219 administrative meetings as requested by District 219 Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services
Follow District 219 Board Policies and Procedures
Perform other duties as appropriate and requested by the District 219 Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services or his/her designee
Develop annual master schedule for Niles Central
Supervises/Oversees Summer School
Duties:
Assist in recruiting, screening, training, recommending for hiring and assigning candidates in summer school
Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of summer school
Budget for summer school supplies and instructional materials for summer school
Supervises classroom instruction during summer school
Evaluates teachers working during summer school
Helps teachers understand the special needs of individual students
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of summer school
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is continuously interacting with the public, staff and students. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. Ability to withstand long term use of video display terminals is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to regularly interact with the students, staff and the public.
SALARY RANGE: Target hiring range for this position will be between $140,000 to $170,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260 day work calendar with irregular or extended work hours including evenings and weekends.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District procedures on administrative evaluation.
