Embroidery Machine Operator
The Operator position is the second-level operator position for the Embroidery Department. The person hired for this position will be responsible for carefully hooping the garments and loading them on the machine to receive the correct design, with the correct placement and location on the garment. This task requires the garment to be placed accurately every time and at a productive pace that keeps up with the speed of the run. Full knowledge of embroidery procedures and functionality of the machine are required.
- Informal Role: Lead Operator
This position requires the individual to be able to set up the machine efficiently and accurately. This position sets the pace for all daily production performed on their assigned machine, carefully observing all personnel and mechanical functions to insure consistency and reporting any variances to the Embroidery Manager. This position performs all set-ups and changeovers of jobs, performs operation of the assigned machine, makes adjustments to the machine and performs cleaning on and around the machine throughout the shift. This person is also required to supervise, train, direct and oversee personnel assigned on all processes involved.
Daily Tasks
· Be present at work station once clocked in.
· Do not leave work station without first letting a supervisor know.
· Follow the policies and procedures of the department and company.
· Learn, understand and practice all safety measures while working around the machines.
· Trim backing on garments using small trimming scissors after they are sewn without causing damage to the garment.
· Trim thread and loose stitching with small trimming scissors on finished embroidery without causing damage to the garment.
· Quality Check and confirm counts on all garments to match production orders.
· Operate the embroidery machine.
· Hoop garments straight, in the correct location and with the proper backing.
· Thread machine with correct thread color required for the design.
· Properly adjust tension.
· Use the correct needle.
· Load correct design on the machine.
· Be able to make any and all adjustments required for daily operation of the machine.
· Monitor machine while in operation to insure no issues or problems go unnoticed.
· This position requires employee to stand for several hours at a time.
· Stage correct shirts for next order to be embroidered on their assigned machine.
· Train and supervise employees on all aspects of operator, assistant and trimmer positions.
· Clean work area as needed and be able to delegate same to operators and assistants.
· Delegate work to operators and assistants on a daily basis.
· Be able to evaluate staff members as requested by the Embroidery Manager.
· Keep adequate supplies and alert Embroidery Manager when they are needed to be ordered.
