Job Description

Nine Entertainment Company is seeking a Segment Producer for the Today Show, Australia’s longest running breakfast television show. You’ll be a great communicator with demonstrated experience in television, radio, print or online. You’ll be across everything from politics to sport, entertainment and breaking news. A good contacts book and experience booking talent is an advantage.

A Segment Producer is responsible for the gathering, filming, scripting, production and editing of stories for the Today Show. Key to this role is producing segments and bulletins for on-air, producing segments in the field and writing for rundowns in line with direction and guidelines from the Supervising Producer.

As a segment producer within the Today team the employee has a responsibility to produce content that could be scheduled within Today/ Weekend Today or Today Extra programs.

Editorial duties

• Identifying stories and talent – ensuring a high level of editorial content is delivered in line with brief/guidelines from the Chief of Staff/  Executive Producer.
• Preparing supers, production and scripts for the following day.
• Liaising with Supervising Producer and Unit Manager re: stories/talent, also ensuring resources used are within budget guidelines. 
• Develop strong relationships with key roles in the business to ensure smooth and efficient production of stories.
• Stories and projects are to be delivered at a high quality and on time.
• Work closely to ensure segments have enough production, information and represent the original intent
• Work closely with the team to forward plan for future programs to ensure there are enough stories for the following day and future programs are efficiently produced
• This role requires shift work
• Other duties and projects as required.

Qualifications

Essential 

• Sound experience in journalism
• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or Communications 
• Experience working in News and Current Affairs and ability to make sound decisions
• Knowledge and application of relevant fair dealing laws
• Understanding of Media and Broadcast environments

Desirable 

• Must be detail oriented, and should strive for accuracy in every element of their work.
• Must have excellent general knowledge
• Should have a wide range of interests
• Should be actively developing contacts that can assist with stories.
