What you can expect to work on…
As a Security Specialist, you will support and manage a wide variety of cybersecurity tasks, including monitoring for security breaches, conducting risk assessments, implementing security measures, and responding to security incidents. This role involves maintaining IT security policies and procedures, conducting training, and providing technical support to ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory standards. Additionally, you will assist with research, develop policies, and serve as the primary point of contact for security incidents.
What you need to succeed…
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of IT experience.
- 2 years of security-related responsibilities.
- Experience managing IT security solutions (firewalls, antivirus, endpoint protection).
- Familiarity with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and network security.
- Knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST 800-171, CIS Controls, or ISO 27001.
- Experience working with compliance audits and implementing security policies.
- Ability to provide general IT support for Windows, Microsoft 365, and common user applications.
- Strong understanding of cloud security (Microsoft 365, SharePoint, OneDrive)
- Knowledge of information security principles, including risk assessment and management, threat and vulnerability management, incident response, and identity and access management.
- Demonstrates desire, capability to regularly engage in mentoring others in the how & why of standard practices related to IT security.
- Work and communicate as part of a team whose members have a wide range of technical experience and education.
- Positively influences a diverse group of skilled professionals across the organization.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; proficient in Microsoft applications.
- Organizational and project management skills for self and teams.

Great to have…
- 5 years of IT experience, with at least 4 years in security-related roles.
- Experience planning, testing, and implementing IT security tools and infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with security auditing, vulnerability management, and incident response.
- One or more security certifications (CISSP, CISM, Security , CySA , etc.).
Other things to know…
- Full-time position.
- Company’s standard operating hours are Monday thru Friday 6a – 6p with production related activities requiring 24/7/365 shifts.
- This position will have regular working hours during M – F with an expectation of adjusting to operational commitments as needed.
- Niowave has multiple locations within the Lansing area. Travel between locations is expected in the role.
