About the Position
We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Manager Auto/General Liability Claims to lead a team of claims professionals handling Auto and General Liability claims. This role is responsible for managing 2-3 direct reports while also handling a reduced caseload of mid to high-exposure claims.
In this leadership role, you will oversee performance management, drive key performance indicators (KPIs), and execute strategic claims-handling initiatives. You will also play a pivotal role in litigation management, reserving, and claims resolution while ensuring optimal outcomes for our insureds.

What Youll Do
Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 2-3 claims professionals handling Auto and General Liability claims.
- Oversee performance management, coaching, and professional development.
- Ensure team members meet key KPIs, including maintaining a 100% closing ratio.
Claims Handling & Investigation
- Directly manage a reduced caseload of 50 mid to high-exposure Auto and General Liability claims.
- Conduct in-depth investigations, including interviews with insureds, witnesses, and claimants.
- Assess liability, evaluate damages, and determine appropriate claim resolution strategies.
- Identify coverage issues and take appropriate action to mitigate risk.
Litigation & Settlement Management
- Work closely with outside defense counsel to manage litigation strategies, budgets, and case resolution.
- Attend mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, and trials as necessary.
- Negotiate settlements within assigned authority levels and secure approvals as needed.
Strategic Claims Management & Reporting
- Establish and maintain accurate reserves in accordance with company standards.
- Prepare detailed case reports and trend analyses for senior management.
- Provide insights and recommendations to underwriting and management on claims trends.
Customer & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Ensure excellent customer service for insureds, brokers, and internal business partners.
- Foster strong communication with underwriters, risk managers, and external legal professionals.
- Participate in external client meetings as required.
What Were Looking For
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
- 7-10 years of experience handling Auto and General Liability claims, including complex and litigated claims.
- 3 years of experience managing litigated claims.
- 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of state tort legal systems and applicable statutes.
- Experience handling Title 59 and public entity claims (preferred).
- Ability to make sound decisions with limited information.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, Excel, etc.).
