Summary
It is our purpose to provide World Class GIS solutions that exceed our customers’ expectations. This will be done through the building and maintenance of our Customers GIS databases using NISC's proprietary MapWise GIS solution as well as other GIS and AutoCAD solutions.
Work Schedule
- Hybrid (after an initial training period) from one of our three office locations
- Cedar Rapids, IA
- Lake Saint Louis, MO
- Mandan, ND
- Hybrid Schedule: Minimum of 3 days per week in the office and ability to work up to 5 days a week in the office as needed
- Required Days from an Office Location: Tuesday and Wednesday – the third day will be up to the candidate and their supervisor to choose
Essential Duties
- Setup, edit and maintain GIS datasets for internal and external customers including, but not limited to, layers, fields, domains, geometric networks, and associated attributes and assets.
- Perform quality assurance including collecting and analyzing database updates and work orders to ensure “as-built” conversion process is successful.
- Assist with the scheduling, tracking and monitoring GIS projects to ensure start time and deadlines are met, keeping all stakeholders informed.
- Provide technical and analytical support to internal customers for our GIS software.
- Provide software enhancement recommendations for our GIS software,
- Commitment to NISC’s Statement of Shared Values.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- Strong level knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Strong level knowledge of:
○ ArcGIS Desktop
○ ArcCatalog - Excellent telephone/email etiquette and an ability to deal effectively with Member/Customers.
- Strong level verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong level ability to multitask and time manage.
- Strong level ability to organize and prioritize.
- Strong research and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.

- Working knowledge of:
○ ArcToolbox
○ ArcGIS Server - Moderate level ability to organize and prioritize.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred
- 3 years of related experience preferred.
- Moderate Python (the ability to customize existing scripts)
- Moderate SQL (the ability to customize existing scripts)
- Moderate level knowledge of the Utility and/or Telecom industries.
- Moderate level knowledge of Project Management methodology
- Ability to travel as often as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the position.
Education Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Geoscience, Cartography, GIS or equivalent experience
