Job Summary
Responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive safety assessment/auditing program, developing and updating company policies and standards and assisting in developing and monitoring compliance training across NiSource. The position will also provide Management with an appraisal of new safety and health rules and regulations and the effect on our operations. This position will be part of the Corporate Safety and Health group and will have responsibility and accountability for all NiSource business units.
This position will be specifically supporting NIPSCO Gas Major Projects. The individual must reside within 50 miles of the service territory in Indiana.
The position offers a hybrid work schedule (3 days home, 2 days in office).
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement a risk-based safety and health (S&H) audit process
- Oversee the S&H audit program, create and manage a self-audit process
- Manage the corporate S&H policy & procedure process
- Communicate audit results and recommendations to local management
- Coordinate and make presentations at operations management meetings
- Provide performance feedback and develop opportunities to staff members
- Review and coordinate audit activities between S&H and operations
- Communicate S&H training requirements to learning developers
- Work with learning developers to identify effective S&H training solutions
- Participate in on-site meetings and travel to various company locations
Required Qualifications for Position
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, safety or equivalent work experience.
- 4-6 years of management and/or audit experience
- Experience with technical writing and policy development
- Experience with safety training and learning solution development
- Experience in preparing and presenting reports
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and a highly developed sense of professional judgment
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, high stress business environment
- Must be a proactive, self-starter with a results orientation and aptitude for taking initiative
- Knowledge of environmental, health and safety rules, regulations and best practices
- Ability to assess and evaluate the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of controls
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization; a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively across organizational boundaries
- Able to manage and evaluate and prioritize audit resources
- Review and coordinate audit activities between S&H and operations
- Ability to handle multiple work assignments with keen awareness to deadlines
- Ability to identify learning requirements in regulations and identify solutions
- Integrity, confidentiality, excellent decision making, ability to exercise good judgment and initiative are needed to perform this position.
- The Program Manager may travel to audit locations and will have overnight travel approximating 20 -35%.

- Utility/Energy industry experience

Salary Range*:
$110,200.00 - $165,300.00- The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
