POSITION OBJECTIVE: Providing a pleasant outdoor environment by ensuring the grounds of the parking lot, parking garage, and building exterior are attractive and orderly through seasonal changes an in preparation for guests to enjoy their visit to the facility. Performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of Casino grounds and landscapes which includes the operation of electrically powered and gasoline-powered grounds keeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters and pruning saws.
- Shovel snow from walkways, driveways or parking lots and spread salt in those areas.
- Care for established landscaping by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch or trimming or edging around flower beds, walkways or walls.
- Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge trimmers, brush trimmers and axes.
- Performs maintenance on grounds keeping equipment and tools and makes minor repairs as needed.
- Prune or trim trees, shrubs and hedges, using shears, pruners or chain saws.
- Ensures that all outside areas are kept free of debris to include parking lots, parking garages and landscaped areas. Changes trash liners and keeps roadways clear of debris.
- Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, fences, or benches using hand or power tools.
- Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides on to grass, shrubs or trees using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
- Maintain irrigations systems, pools and fountains including winterizing the systems and starting them up in the spring.
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountain, planters or other grounds features.
- Water lawns, trees and/or plants using portable sprinkler systems, hoses or watering cans.
- Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass or plant flowers and/or foliage.
- Assists with traffic control preparedness for special events, including placing and removing signs, cones and barricades. Monitors the striping for updates and improvements.
- Completes regular deliveries and moves for operations including assisting with deliveries from shipping and receiving.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required skills, knowledge and behavior:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1-year job related experience in outside maintenance and/or landscaping.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in planting, cultivating, and trimming a variety of types of trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, and grasses.
- Ability to understand written work orders, labels, MSDS and instruction as well as direction for the proper mixture, use and disposal/storage of cleaners, solvents, chemicals, fertilizers, and similar products used in grounds keeping.
- Skills in the proper operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Provide a Driving Abstract.
- Must have a valid Washington State Driver License and Driver’s abstract must not contain any disqualifying events per the NRWC Safe Driver Policy.
- Ability to operate sweeper, forklift, skid loader, scissor lift and snorkel lift or must be able to successfully complete training to properly operate within the first 90 days of employment.
- Ability to obtain a Class III Gaming License.
- Ability to work all shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Preferred skills and knowledge:
- Vocational certification in horticulture or related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to lift boxes weighing at least 50 pounds and the ability to reach heights up to 72”.
- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull or squat for long periods of time.
- Ability to tolerate a smoke-filled environment.
