The Nisqually Valley News, a community newspaper based out of Yelm, Washington, is hiring for a full-time general reporter position to join our news team.
We are seeking a dynamic, personable and motivated reporter who is passionate about hyper-local journalism and telling accurate, meaningful stories important to our multiple communities in Thurston and Pierce counties. If hired, you will be responsible for researching, investigating and reporting on various topics within your assigned coverage areas and turning in stories and photographs for print and web on a tight deadline.
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field, or equivalent experience, as well as strong writing and communication skills with an emphasis on clarity and accuracy. Knowledge of AP style, social media and basic photography skills are a plus. A willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced newsroom environment and strong interpersonal skills for building effective relationships in the community and newsroom are a must.
