What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Reading Specialist position at Nixa Public Schools?
Primary Tasks & Major Activities
Support reading intervention through instruction of individual students and/or small groups of students. Work collaboratively with and provide support for classroom teachers through modeling/coaching in Reading/Writing instruction. Candidate should be able to Collect and analyze data in order to employ a variety of instructional strategies and interventions consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups being served. Support Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
Educational/Skills/Experience Required
Current Missouri Certification in appropriate field and grade levels; BS in Elementary Education with a minimum of three years teaching experience in the primary grades. Reading Specialist certification preferred but not required. Good computer literacy and typing skills. Clear oral and written communication skills. Must show enthusiasm and interest in reading and have knowledge of current best practices in literacy instruction. Knowledge of Missouri Assessment Program (MAP)and Missouri Learning Standards. Willingness to engage in best practices consistent with Professional Learning Communities including strong collaboration with peers. Willingness to understand and support District’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education.
