Responsibilities
Staff Counsel for CURE Auto Insurance has openings due to our launch and expansion into the Michigan market. We are looking for an experienced BI/Third-Party Trial Attorney with 2-4 years of civil litigation experience in handling these types of claims. This experience should include taking and defending lay and expert depositions, extensive motion practice, as well as trying cases to verdict. Leadership potential is available as we continue to expand.
Staff Counsel will be responsible for handling BI/Third Party files from inception through trial and appeal, if necessary. All candidates must possess excellent academic credentials, outstanding written and oral advocacy skills and strong software/technological skills including competency in Word, Google Suite, and Westlaw. Ideal candidates will be well organized, detail oriented and able to independently manage a caseload where work is time sensitive. This position provides leadership potential as we continue to expand in Michigan.
Located in downtown Detroit, Michigan, we provide a congenial, collaborative professional work environment with skilled support staff, competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. We currently operate under a hybrid schedule with attorneys coming into the office on-site, 2 to 3 days a week.
Qualifications
We are looking for Attorneys who have the following experience:
1-3 years of experience handling BI/Third-party litigation from inception to conclusion, including trials to verdict. Additional handling of first party claims for auto carriers a plus
First chair trials to verdict
Ability to take full responsibility for files
Must be able to handle a full inventory of files
Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law commensurate with level of experience
Experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses
Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to lawsuit handling
Experience working in a paperless electronic environment
Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation
Preferred qualification is the handling of automobile negligence defense matters
Additional Information:
Must have a law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
Must have tried BI/Third-Party cases in Michigan to verdict
Office Location: Downtown Detroit, Michigan, but we cover jurisdictions in and around the Metro Detroit area.
Compensation: $95,000 - 145,000 annually based on experience
Operating Model: Hybrid flexible work environment.
