Motion Paralegal / Motion Law Clerk

Due to our continuing growth and success, we are seeking a full-time paralegal to join our new and developing in-house law firm! This position will support attorneys handling insurance defense cases. The ideal candidate will have experience handling cases involving No Fault / PIP, UM / UIM, & Bodily Injury Suits. The primary function of this role is to draft and file various types of motions for our in-house attorneys in pending litigation files.
Essential Job Functions / Requirements :
Responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting attorneys with preparing and filing of motions for pending litigation files.
Maintain motion calendar for attorneys, including return date for motion, and due dates for reply briefs.
Follow up for Order(s) following the return date of Motion.3 years experience as a paralegal handling insurance related cases specific to No Fault / PIP coverage, bodily injury and / or UM / UIM claims.
Specific experience interacting with the Court, drafting pleadings, motions, discovery; coordinating medical exams, scheduling court appearances & discovery, and managing all aspects of the defense of cases from inception through trial.
Paralegal Certification or equivalent education / experience required or current law student with pleading experience.
Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work independently as well as possess strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively to co-workers, clients, and external parties.
Ability to thrive in a high volume environment managing an electronic-based case load.
Must be organized and have the ability to multitask, while prioritizing work.
Experience / Qualifications :
Paralegal Certificate a plus
College Degree (4yr preferred)
Students attending law school that has experience drafting various types of motions will be considered
Legal / law firm experience preferred with the litigation or insurance defense The candidates must possess excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills, and the ability to multitask.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Excel and spreadsheet analysis
Civil litigation and insurance defense experience preferred.
Physical Actions / Environment : Working conditions are typical of an office environment. Required job duties consist of prompt and regular attendance, ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others; standing, sitting and typing for extended periods; and lifting and / or carrying up to 105 lbs. Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone / virtually, and in writing. Ability to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions. Candidates must be willing to work onsite in the Detroit, MI office
Schedule : Full-Time; 8 : 30am-5pm.
Location : The office is presently located in Detroit, MI. It is anticipated that the office will be relocated to the Greater Detroit Area, most likely to Southfield, MI in the coming months.
