A Third-Party Claims Representative is responsible for the handling of Auto Physical Damage Claims in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations. Reporting to the Property Damage Liability Manager within the PD Department, this role exists in a fast-paced environment, with heavy phone work. The ideal candidate must be able to adapt to the changing environment and multi-task. Multi-state experience is a plus. (This role is Non-Exempt per the FLSA.)
Essential Job Functions:
Investigate and interpret policy provisions, endorsements, and conditions to assist in making a coverage determination.
Responsible for the investigation of the auto accident to make a liability assessment. This includes interviewing first- and third-party claimants, witnesses, investigating officers and other relevant parties, along with securing pertinent records, documentation, and loss scene information.
Evaluate each loss to determine the proximate cause, degree of negligence, and the damages.
Ensure that a high-level customer service is maintained at all times.
Negotiate and settle claims within the authority level. Properly escalate higher value claims for review and approval to department supervisor.
Coordinate vehicle inspections utilizing photo estimating, independent appraisers, direct repair shops, and/or staff.
Maintain strict adherence to established timeframes for follow-ups to ensure all claims are handled in accordance with NJ Unfair Claims Settlement Practices and Regulations and the PA Unfair Claims Settlement Act. Thorough knowledge of these laws/regulations and the principles of comparative negligence required.
Use knowledge and expertise to handle all claims in accordance with industry laws and regulations.
Incorporate the principles and practices of loss and expense control in all facets of work performed.
Attend any required or necessary training sessions, courses, etc. to further develop insurance industry and general business expertise. Participate actively in individual development planning and cross-training on an ongoing basis.
Experience with Arbitration Forums is a plus, but not required.

Experience/Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is a plus and can be substituted for experience.
Minimum of 3 months as Collision or Theft Adjuster
Minimum of 1-2 years NJ/PA/MI claims experience required.
Industry designations are a plus, but not required.
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and negotiation communication skills, as well as a strong customer service orientation.
Highly organized working style with an ability to manage time and caseload and strong attention to detail, with commitment to meeting individual and team goals.
Strong customer service skills.
Technical proficiency with computers, standard business, and insurance software (to include working knowledge of Google suite products), use and navigation of internet and cloud-based applications, and an ability to navigate and utilize multiple systems concurrently is required; applicants may be submitted to a test on the same.
Physical Actions/Environment: Required job duties consist of prompt and regular attendance, ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others; standing, sitting and typing for extended periods; and lifting and/or carrying up to 5 lbs. Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone/virtually, and in writing. Ability to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions.
Salary:$54,080 - $68,640 annually based on experience
Schedule: Full-Time; Mondays – Fridays, 8:30am-5pm
Location: Detroit, MI or Princeton, NJ
