Internship Hours Per Week : Fully in person up to 35 hours per week
Hourly Rate : Sliding Scale based on Education Level ($18-$23 Per Hour)
Program : Legal, Regulatory & Legislative Affairs – Office of Administrative Hearings & Dispute Resolution
Program Description : This Office receives and processes requests for administrative hearings and dispute resolution. We work closely with Department staff, the Division of Law, and the Office of Administrative Law to ensure that appeals and disputes are processed properly and efficiently.
Project Description : Learn about the Administrative Hearings Process and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The primary project that the intern will work on is the review of first party hearing requests and work on the backlog of open hearing requests. As time allows, the intern may work on other projects related to the first party hearing requests or ADR. The intern will get an overview of the various programs within the Department and the types of matters for which hearings are requested.
Preferred Area of Study : Seeking individuals enrolled at an accredited university / college studying Law, pre-Law, Criminal Justice, or Political Science, with a strong interest in the environment and / or the legal process.
License : Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency : All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52 : 14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
Authorization to Work : Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note : The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
