Open to permanent employees in a competitive title who work for the State Park Service and meet the requirements below.
Description
Under direction of an administrative official in the State Park Service, serves as a liaison between the central office and the individual field areas in a large region (one-third of the State): is responsible for the execution of all policy; organizes and directs the overall administration, operation, maintenance, and protection of all State parks, forests, natural areas, recreation areas, historic sites and other miscellaneous areas within an assigned region; does related work as required.
Specific to the Position
This position reports directly to the Administrator of the State Park Service and is responsible for managing operations and administration of State Park Service parks, forests, recreation areas and historic sites within the Northern Region. The Regional Superintendent will also foster and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites program areas as well as other DEP programs.
Preferred Skill Set
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with the ability to administer State Park Service areas within the Region. Ability to provide clear direction.
Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in the field of Forestry; Landscape Architecture; Park Planning, Park Management, or Park Recreation; or Natural Resource Management Cultural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Wildlife Management, Biological Sciences or Ecology.
OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in environmental policy, American History, Education, Public Administration including or supplemented by twenty-one (21) semester credit hours in any combination of wildlife management, research methods, natural resources management or parks and recreation management.
NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of experience in a natural resources management program with supervisory responsibility for the administration, operation, protection, and maintenance of publicly and/or privately owned lands and facilities managed for recreational and conservation use.
NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the above indicated disciplines or Public Administration may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
License
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
NOTE: Appointee may be required to obtain a Motorboat Operator's License.
