Internship Hours Per Week : Fully in person up to 35 hours per week

Hourly Rate : Sliding Scale based on Education Level ($18-$23 Per Hour)

Program : Watershed & Land Management - Division of Watershed Protection & Restoration - Bureau of Watershed Management

Program Description :   At the DEP's Watershed and Land Management Program (WLM), our mission is to unite land and water stewardship through a collaborative, watershed-focused approach. Since our inception on June 1, 2020, we have been dedicated to preserving and enhancing New Jersey's water quality and natural resources while safeguarding communities from environmental threats.

Project Description :   Under close supervision of a supervisory official, in an environmental services program, the Watershed Management and Mitigation Intern will learn to conduct routine inspections, and / or investigations relating to the improvement and / or monitoring of environmental conditions, and / or other related duties. Additionally, they will review aspects of contracting and grant management for the Water Quality Restoration Grants. Lastly, they will assist with GIS data creation, review, and analysis.

Specific to the Position :  Knowledge of GIS. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task are necessary.

Preferred Area of Study : Majors relating to physical sciences, environmental sciences / studies, chemical sciences, biological sciences, environmental planning, or physical geography.

License : Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Residency : All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011, have one year from the date of employment to establish and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52 : 14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".

Authorization to Work : Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note : The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
