Program: Water Resource Management – Division of Water Supply and Geoscience – Bureau of Water Allocation and Well Permitting
Program Description: The Water Resource Management program establishes water quality and drinking water standards, monitors the waters of the State to ensure surface and groundwater standards are met, helps ensure delivery of water that meets drinking water standards, regulates discharges of wastewater and storm water to surface and ground water, regulates and manages the diversion of water from surface and groundwaters to ensure protection of the resource, and provides low cost financial assistance for finance capital improvements to water infrastructure.
Project Description: This position is crucial to the implementation of the Water Supply Management Act, N.J.S.A. 58:1A-1 and the Water Allocation and Agricultural Certification regulations N.J.A.C. 7:19 and N.J.A.C. 7:20A. The intern will review water use registrations, water allocation permits and agricultural certifications for compliance. They will also track and issue correspondence for entities with source capacities that exceed the regulatory threshold that are not properly permitted.
Specific to the Position: database and research experience, Microsoft Suite, Google/Bing Maps, GIS
Preferred Area of Study: Majors relating to environmental science, physical science, and biological science, as well as environmental policy.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
