What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director, Capital Project Delivery & Support position at NJ TRANSIT?
SUMMARY:
- This role plays a critical role as the liaison between Capital Programs and NJ TRANSIT's Government and Community Relations department. Main responsibilities involve assisting the Director, Capital Project Delivery and Administration in navigating and managing the complex interactions with the NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors.
- This role is intended to bridge communication gaps and ensure clear and impactful messaging in support of Capital Programs projects and initiatives.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as liaison with and central point of contact for NJ TRANSIT's Government and Community Relations department.
- Works with the Government and Community Relations department to organize public meetings, events, or outreach efforts to keep the community informed and involved in capital projects and initiatives.
- Keeps track of relevant legislative, regulatory, and policy developments that could impact NJ TRANSIT projects and initiatives, and briefs senior management on potential implications.
- In coordination with the Assistant Director, Capital Communications and Support, assists in coordinating responses with NJ TRANSIT’s Communications and Customer Experience department.
- Assists project managers in navigating the process for project approvals with the Board of Directors.
- Represents Capital Programs at meetings and on committees as assigned.
- Conducts special assignments as directed.
- Researches, plans, and composes internal/external correspondence, briefing preparation, reports and/or requests for information on projects.
- Prepares weekly activity reports and submits to the Director.
- Performs special projects and/or initiatives projects, as assigned by the Director.
- This position supervises a Contract Support Coordinator.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, communications, or related area and seven (7) years of experience in public affairs/community relations environment. Experience in communications regarding transit infrastructure is preferred. One year of closely related work experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Strong verbal and written communication to effectively liaise between NJ TRANSIT and external stakeholders.
- Experience in handling government relations and community outreach.
- Ensure accuracy in documentation and project details required for board review.
- Ability to assist in troubleshooting any issues that arise during the project approval process.
- Strong ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information.
- Ability to plan and structure communication effectively for both internal and external stakeholders.
