What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Planning Specialist position at NJ Transit?

Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Maintains the perpetual inventory system, adding and modifying data against the inventory corporate item master. Responsible for the scheduling of cycle counts, picking and inventory replenishment monthly jobs.
2. Reviews and analyzes daily system generated purchase requisitions and replenishment parameters of stock items to ensure inventoried supplies are purchased, delivered, received, put away and available when required.
3. Compiles and analyzes statistical data regarding inventories, minimum order quantity and lead times to better align supply with demand. Reviews inventory consumption and recommends reorders levels to meet demand.
4. Proactively and timely communicates with vendors to expedite past due orders, resolve order discrepancies and delivery issues to ensure parts and supplies are available when required.
5. Collaborates with Surface Transit or Rail, Engineering, Purchasing and other departments to obtain maintenance requirements, component failure analysis, and provide demand usage. Makes system changes to update requirements and facilitate replenishment cycles.
6. Supports and provides technical support for warehouses on automated replenishment. Executes inventory addition, changes and updating of reorder levels as requested. Ensures optimal inventory levels and safety stock are maintained for parts to sustain the field demand and reduce stock out issues.
7. Conducts warehouse and other store location visits and trains users in inventory control and system maintenance to ensure they have a working knowledge of the inventory system and all the functions pertaining to warehousing.
8. Attends and participates in required weekly inventory meetings with operations, procurement, and engineering to resolve material outages, vendor performance and supply chain delivery issues.
9, Identifies surplus and obsolete inventory due to vehicle or equipment retirements fleets. Creates solicitations for the purpose of selling excess and obsolete field equipment and supplies. Coordinates with Operations, Environmental, Finance, Safety, and other departments, both internally and externally, to ensure the best price is obtained.
10. Prepares, monitors, and distributes periodic status reports summarizing and analyzing inventory usage, open material requests, purchase order detail and cycle count adjustments.
11. Coaches and directs peers as needed to accomplish desired department objectives.
12. Performs all duties within the currently approved systems of record and properly maintains documents in conformance with document control policies.
13. Remain current on all required training.
14. Create a development plan for your career.
15.. Plans, tracks, reports on work activities with the end result being professional, transparent, efficient execution of duties.
16. Provides both proactive and prompt responsive customer service to client departments.
17. Performs other duties as assigned by Material Planning Leadership
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience or any combination of education and relevant experience.
- A Master's degree may be allowed to replace 1 year of experience.
- The degree (s) must be in Business, Public Administration, Engineering, Economics, IT or related degree area.
Knowledge and Skills:
Technology – Must be able to work proficiently in the following Systems of Record: ECMS, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Access Databases, Excel Spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Teams), Adobe, Oracle ERP, and other systems in use or under development. Systems may change over time.
Communication – Must be able to understand active listening and have excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
