Summary:
Monitors the accounting, reporting and control of financial data to ensure the accurate maintenance and reporting of expenditures in accordance with accounting standards, NJ TRANSIT policy and procedures, and federal and state regulations.
Participates in the implementation and development of NJ TRANSIT policies and procedures in order to maintain consistency, improve methodology and efficiency of accounting operations.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and distributes detailed reports for all levels of management to facilitate the flow of financial information.
- Prepares various government reports to meet federal and state compliance requirements.
- Responsible for reconciling financial data and preparing workpapers and financial statements for NJ Transit’s defined benefit pension plans and defined contribution plans.
- Works with the financial reporting team on the preparation of financial statements and footnotes for the annual reports, also prepares the various supporting schedules for year-end audits.
- Assists the external auditor in collecting information from internal and external sources for the annual audit, also follows up on pending issues.
- Performs assigned duties during the monthly close including, but not limited to, preparation of journal entries and analysis, processing transactions, and research into significant budget variances.
- Prepare power point presentation for monthly board financial package.
- Provides oversight direction to lower-level accountants in the performance of specific tasks or special projects.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and five (5) years of applied accounting experience.
- Experience with preparation of financial statements and footnotes required.
- Experience with pension reports desired.
Knowledge and Skills:
Essential:
- Knowledge of computerized financial systems required.
- Oracle General Ledger experience highly desired.
Preferred:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Products with advanced MS Excel and Power Point experience.
- Must have excellent written and verbal skill.
- Strong accounting technical skills preferable.
