Under the supervision of the program supervisor, the incumbent will carry out assigned duties relating to the provision of education, information and training.

Domestic Violence Response Team Coordinator

The Domestic Violence Response Team Program is a partnership of the Camden County Women’s Center and Office of Victim Witness at the state level, and the Police Departments in Camden County at the county level. The DVRT Coordinator is a domestic violence professional who provides on and off-site training, case consultation, support and advocacy for the community volunteers interested in becoming volunteers.

Purpose

  • To increase safety, stability and wellbeing and improve outcomes for those in domestic violence situations
  • To strengthen police capacity to provide effective assessment and intervention for families in domestic violence situations
  • To train and supervise volunteers who provide information and options to survivors/ victims of domestic violence present at police stations or hospitals

Responsibilities

  • The DVRT Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the police departments in the recruitment and interviewing of community volunteers
  • Provide the initial 40 hour training for each new DVRT, bi-annual 40-hour trainings for new volunteers in existing teams, and quarterly in-service training workshops for all teams
  • Attend municipal DVRT team meetings for supervision of the volunteers
  • Serve as a liaison between the domestic violence agency and the County Prosecutors office on issues pertaining to the DVRTs
  • Serve as a liaison to the State Office of Victim Witness Advocacy and be present for any meetings scheduled by that office concerning the DVRTs
  • Gather data necessary to evaluate program activities, maintain program statistics, request for information and the number of sessions in each agency and in the community
  • Act as a resource for related agencies, staff and community groups for domestic violence related inquires
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and supervisory conferences
  • Attend and participate in community events and meetings as required
  • Attend and participate in staff training opportunities
  • Provide written reports as required by the program and funding contract
  • Maintain awareness of current domestic violence issues

Education, Experience & Credentials

  • Bachelor of Arts degree and 5 years experience in domestic violence services or Masters Degree and 3 years of experience in domestic violence services required or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Domestic Violence Specialist by the NJ Board of Domestic Violence Professionals or working toward certification required. Twenty–five per cent of the requirements for classroom hours and supervised direct practice required for certification must be completed within one year of hire. Domestic Violence Specialist Certification may be substituted for the required degree
  • Bilingual/bicultural in Spanish preferred.
  • Strong clinical, communications, problem-solving, advocacy, networking and collaboration skills required

Demonstrated competencies include:

  • Working knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and coercive control, advocacy, courts, welfare, child welfare, confidentiality and counseling, ethics, systems collaboration, and accessing resources, prevention and best practices, empowerment, and child development, crisis intervention, collaborative approach, problem solving skills, group process.
  • Supervision of the DVRT Coordinator is provided by the Camden County Women’s Center
