Summary

Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing profit and loss statements, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Prepare profit and loss statements and produce budget to actual expenditures according to schedule.
  • Prepare budgets and expenditures for local, state, federal, and private funding, contracts, and grants.
  • Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and review budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents.
  • Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.
  • Explain billing invoices and accounting policies to staff, vendors and clients.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Recommend, develop and maintain financial data bases, computer software systems and manual filing systems.
  • Recommend, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
  • Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge And Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. This is normally acquired through a combination of the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in accounting and three to five years of accounting experience.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited information exists.
  • The employee in this position is often required to lift up to 50lbs., stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, use fingers, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision
  • Individuals must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a currently registered, insured automobile

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university

3 years of relevant accounting experience

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited information exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule formats.

Computer/TYPING Skills:

Strong computer skills including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite and Accounting Software

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
