Summary:
As a member of the Human Resources department, the Benefits Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties. Reporting to the Benefits & LOA Manager, the Benefits Assistant helps employees with the enrollment process of the firm’s benefit offerings, responds to benefit related inquiries, maintains accurate benefit records, processes carrier invoices, and ensures compliance with required benefit notices. This role is vital in ensuring the day-to-day operations within benefits runs smoothly, and efficiently.
What Will You Do?
- Administers various employee benefits programs, such as group health, dental and vision, accident and disability, flexible and health spending accounts, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits.
- Processes enrollments, terminations, and qualified status changes (QSCs) for all health and welfare programs, and follows up with all new hires and employees with QSCs to ensure all enrollments and changes are processed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Monitors e-mail box to respond to benefits related questions from Staff and Partners at the firm.
- Conducts benefits orientations and explains the benefits self-enrollment system.
- Ensures benefits adjustments are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction.
- Resolves administrative problems with carrier representatives.
- Assists with the firm’s annual open enrollment process.
- Audits and processes carrier invoices in a timely manner.
- Coordinates workers' compensation claims with third-party administrator.
- Assists Benefits & LOA Manager with leave administration duties as needed, such as preparing and collecting required documentation, to ensure compliance with state and federal labor laws.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What Do you Need to Succeed:
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of the terms and conditions of all US health and welfare plans to ensure the proper administration by insurers and vendors.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to benefits and LOA administration, including FLSA, FMLA/CFRA, HIPPA, ERISA and the like.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Self-motivated with excellent organization skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills a must.
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is an asset.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Ability to learn and navigate the firm’s HRIS and Talent Management Systems.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree desired, preferably in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- One year of Human Resources or Benefits administration and/or management experience strongly preferred.
- SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP, PHR highly desired.

Salary Range: The salary range for this role is $55,000 - $65,000 and represents the firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, and location.
