Job Responsibility: The Cost and Revenue Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of cost accounting and revenue recognition processes within the organization. This role involves detailed analysis of production costs, cost structures, and inventory, as well as auditing revenue recognition to ensure it aligns with accounting standards and company policies. A strong background in cost accounting, including cost allocation, variance analysis, and inventory management, is essential.
Job Duties:
- Review and verify cost records related to production, including direct materials, labor, overheads, and finished goods, ensuring proper cost allocation.
- Conduct cost analysis, including margin analysis, yield analysis, and variance analysis, to identify trends and opportunities for cost optimization.
- Ensure accurate cost categorizations in the financial system and that cost records are consistent with actual production data.
- Collaborate with the finance team to prepare cost reports, track cost variances, and provide recommendations to improve cost efficiency.
- Audit inventory levels, including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods, ensuring accuracy and alignment with cost records.
- Analyze and reconcile discrepancies between physical inventory and recorded costs to ensure proper valuation.
- Ensure that revenue from sales is recognized in accordance with company policies, accounting standards (e.g., GAAP), and regulatory requirements such as ASC 606.
- Audit sales invoices, contracts, and shipping records to confirm the proper timing and accuracy of revenue recognition.
- Maintain a solid understanding of the company’s products and programs as they impact the revenue cycle
- Work closely with sales, finance, and operations teams to resolve discrepancies between reported revenue and actual sales.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting by providing cost data and analyzing past production costs and projected revenue.
- Prepare detailed reports highlighting discrepancies, cost-saving opportunities, and performance against budgeted targets.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls related to both cost accounting and revenue recognition processes.
- Provide recommendations for improvements in cost accounting systems and processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor and evaluate cost accounting practices to ensure alignment with industry best practices.
- Work with production, finance, and sales teams to resolve cost-related or revenue-related issues in a timely manner.
- Perform special audits or investigations related to cost and revenue as assigned by senior management.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Cost Accounting specialization preferred).
- 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting or cost analysis in a manufacturing environment (preferably within a similar industry).
- Experience in variance analysis, cost allocation, and inventory management is required.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles (including direct/indirect costs, overhead, COGS) and revenue recognition standards (e.g., ASC 606).
- Expertise in data collection, analysis, and reporting for costing (e.g., margin analysis, yield analysis, variance reporting).
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Oracle) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills:
- Audit experience using data analytics; Power BI preferred
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically about cost management.
