Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Diagnosis

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of pelvic floor function, including history taking and physical examination.
  • Diagnose conditions such as urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction.
  • Use various tools and techniques, such as biofeedback or internal exams, to assess muscle strength and control.
  • Treatment Planning and Implementation :

  • Develop individualized treatment plans to address pelvic floor dysfunction based on the patient's condition and goals.
  • Provide manual therapy, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and other therapeutic techniques.
  • Prescribe exercises to strengthen, relax, or coordinate the pelvic floor muscles, along with core, hip, and abdominal exercises.
  • Offer guidance on lifestyle modifications, posture, and ergonomics that support pelvic health.
  • Patient Education and Counseling :

  • Educate patients on pelvic anatomy and how to manage and prevent pelvic floor dysfunction.
  • Provide instructions on exercises and techniques for bladder retraining, bowel management, and pain relief.
  • Discuss potential lifestyle factors, such as diet, that may contribute to symptoms.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Providers :

  • Collaborate with gynecologists, urologists, midwives, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
  • Refer patients to other specialists as needed for further treatment / evaluation.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping :

  • Maintain accurate records of patient evaluations, treatment plans, progress, and outcomes.
  • Track patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Qualifications

  • Education : Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree or equivalent.
  • Licensing : Must be licensed to practice physical therapy in the state of Colorado employment.
  • Certification :
  • Specialization in pelvic floor rehabilitation or women’s health physical therapy (e.g., APTA Board Certification or Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute certification).
  • Dry Needling certification preferred.
  • Experience : Previous experience in pelvic health physical therapy is preferred.
  • Skills

  • Strong understanding of pelvic floor anatomy and physiology.
  • Hands-on manual therapy skills.
  • Ability to develop customized treatment plans.
  • Compassionate, with excellent communication and patient education skills.
  • Comfortable working with sensitive health issues.
  • Salary : $38 - $45
