Position Summary

Reporting to the Quality Manager and a dotted line reporting to the VP of Quality & Innovations, the Quality Assurance Specialist will primarily be responsible for document and program management including but not limited to reviewing and updating relevant documents, assisting with creating and updating Quality programs and protocols and assisting with internal audits to ensure compliance.

Job Duties

• Responsible for the change management process including administration of changes and implementation
• Create, review and revise controlled documents pertaining to change management such as implementation and changes to products and processes
• Develop, implement and maintain processing specifications
• Responsible for setting up and revising operational documentation such as line check forms, mixing records and Bills of Materials in the company’s ERP system
• Responsible for issuance and updating of product specifications
• Administrate the non-conformance, root cause and corrective & preventive action process
• Issue non-conformances, lead the investigation and root cause analysis
• Assign corrective and preventive actions and ensure timely close-out and successful implementation
• Perform trend analysis for non-conformances
• Assist the VP of Quality and Innovation with the customer complaints process and ensure complaints are logged, investigated and tracked for completion and analysis
• Assist on-site quality teams with results reporting and review. Enter and evaluate results for product testing, environmental monitoring, utility monitoring and initiate corrective actions as needed
• Issues COAs to customers as required
• Assist the VP of Quality and Innovation with the Internal Auditing process
• Administrate internal audits, log, assign and close-out non-conformances; track progress against target
• Assist in reviewing, updating, and maintaining the company’s GFSI compliant Quality Management System
• Support creation and updating of programs and materials such as training, food safety, quality, and testing. Prepare documents, protocols, work instructions etc. as required
• Assist the on-site quality team with monthly internal auditing of GMPs, sanitation and facility inspections and records, and ensure that each department is up to date on the completion and submission of documentation and records
• Support maintenance and review of pest control records and equipment calibration schedules and records
• Work collaboratively with regulatory, HACCP, training, and documentation roles to support and provide assistance as required. Prepare and assist as needed for the achievement and maintenance of key certifications and licenses such as BRCGS, GFCO, Kosher, Halal, FSMA, SFCR, and others
• Assist and support the Quality Manager and the Vice President of Quality and Innovation with various tasks related to the Quality Management System
• Work closely and communicate with department heads, managers, and supervisors throughout the organization to assist with completion and submission of tasks, documents and records in a timely manner
• Follow all Food Safety, HACCP, Quality and Operational procedures (SOPs) as defined in NMF’s Quality Management System.
• Use relevant software to enter data, compile reports and update documentation as required.
• Other projects and related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in food technology, food science, or equivalent.
• Combination of education, work experience and relevant training considered an asset.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Quality-related role within food manufacturing or related industry.
• Experienced in program development and maintenance as it relates to Quality.
• Previous experience in document management and file auditing required.
• Prior experience with internal/external audits considered an asset.
• Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office suite required (MS Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain professionalism and composure in varying circumstances.
• Effective communication skills and ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
• High attention to detail and meticulous.
• Adaptable, resourceful and a willingness to learn.

Working Conditions

• This is a Monday to Friday schedule with hours aligned to the core working hours of the business. Overtime, weekends and statutory holiday work may be required.
• Some travel requirements required (0-5%).

Compensation range for this position in Stanwood, Washington: $25 to $30 per hour. The compensation depends on qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan annually, personal medical and parental leave, paid holidays, and family care benefits.
