Position Summary

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the QA Technician’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to daily monitoring and verification of food safety and quality parameters in food processing, working closely with internal teams to ensure that food safety and quality targets are met. This position is also responsible to assist with raw material release, record keeping and documentation, non-conformance, corrective action and root cause analysis processes, customer complaints and various tasks related to the Quality Management System. This role will be exposed to varying conditions and temperatures working in the production area daily ( /- 70%) and in an office setting ( /- 30%).

Job Duties

• Monitor quality targets, food safety protocols, production, warehousing, maintenance processes and GMPs to ensure compliance to established standards and requirements, and report non-compliances to the Quality Manager.
• Responsible for in-process quality control activities and review of inspection records
• Inspect, evaluate and release incoming raw materials in the company’s ERP system.
• Perform daily start-up tasks such as scale verification, issuance of production paperwork, sanitation verification, label control.
• Ensure sampling protocols are adhered to and administrate internal and external material and product testing.
• Perform environmental monitoring and utilities sampling.
• Responsible for data entry and assistance with evaluation of results for product testing, environmental monitoring, utility monitoring and initiation of corrective actions as needed.
• Perform calibration of measurement instrumentation.
• Assist with Quality Hold procedures and control of non-conforming materials.
• Assist in finished product release.
• Liaise with other departments to ensure that food safety and quality targets are met; assist other departments as needed.
• Contribute to the continual improvement of food safety and quality protocols.
• Deputy for other Quality Assurance Technicians.
• Use relevant software to enter data, compile reports and update documentation as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• BSc in Food Technology, Food Science or relevant education and/or training.
• Strong knowledge of Food Safety, HACCP and Quality Management Systems.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or equivalent position within a related industry.
• GFSI experience considered an asset.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required (MS Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and meticulous.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
• Adaptable, resourceful and a willingness to learn.

Work Schedule

• The work schedule for this role will start as a Monday to Friday schedule with weekend work requirement from time to time. A schedule change to 4x10 shifts will be required to support operations. Work schedules may vary and will be assigned by the supervisor.
• Day, afternoon and/or swing shift schedule will be required.
• Overtime hours, statutory holidays and weekend work will be required.

Working Conditions

• This is an on-site position working a combination of on-the-floor (95%) and in-office work setting (5%).
• Exposure to varying temperatures, noise and common food allergens will be present.
• Long periods of standing, sitting and bending required for the role.
• Frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs.
• Allergens present – including but not limited to soy, wheat, etc.
• Required to wear PPE such as safety boots, hair nets, lab coats and more.
• No jewelry allowed on the production floor.

Compensation range for this position in Stanwood, Washington: $24 to $27 per hour. The compensation depends on qualifications and experience.
